On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
Understand and use basic engagement and helping skills with someone suicidal
Understand how people may begin to think about suicide and how the suicidal person feels
Describe the journey of suicide from idea to act
Understand the role of untreated clinical depression and other mental illnesses and substance abuse to increased suicide risk
Engage in an interactive and helpful dialogue with someone suicidal in the context of sharing a book about understanding suicide and how to reduce the risk of a suicide attempt
Understand the key role that staying connected with someone considering suicide has in keeping people safe, and how this alone can save a life
